Located at the heart of the Marches, the historic border countryside where England meets Wales, Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in England. Beautiful, unspoilt countryside, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic parklands, the cathedral city of Hereford, and attractive market towns provide an excellent quality of life.
This exciting position offers a unique opportunity to lead the Council’s pioneering and award-winning phosphate mitigation strategy. The goal is to improve the health of the River Wye, one of the country’s favourite rivers, and to restore the special area of conservation to a favourable condition.
The successful candidate will work in partnership with multiple departments, neighbouring councils, partners, and both English and Welsh government offices to develop, resource, and deliver a holistic solution to address phosphate pollution in the river. As a technical expert, the post holder will collaborate closely with the Built & Natural Environment team and Project Management Office to support the delivery of mitigation projects, including constructing new wetlands, upgrading septic tanks, and developing innovative pilot schemes.
