(BF4897) – Environmental Health Lead Officer – Health & Trading Standards – Housing – South London

Location: South London
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: Full Time – 35hr/week – 3-Month

The role involves managing staff and leading on allocated projects or specialisms within Commercial, Residential/Housing, and Pollution/Waste Management. Reporting to a Team Manager, the post-holder is responsible for overseeing project performance, developing policies and procedures, coordinating work across teams, and ensuring compliance with legislation and council policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadand manage specific projects or specialisms, including staff coordination and performance monitoring.
  • Assist with budget preparation and contribute to policy development.
  • Provide professional advice to the public, elected representatives, and external bodies.
  • Prepare reports, attend meetings, and handle public complaints and enquiries.
  • Conduct complex investigations and enforcement actions, including representing the council in legal settings.
  • Identify training needs, deliver training, and support staff recruitment and selection.
  • Input and manage data using computer systems.
  • Represent the Team Manager when required and perform other related duties.
  • Ensure all work aligns with health and safety, customer care, and equal opportunity policies.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working as an Environmental HealthOfficerin local government or similar settings.
  • Competence in managing caseloads related to housing standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement procedures.
  • Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
