Long Marston Rail Innovation CentrePorterbrook is on an exciting journey at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre (RIC) in Warwickshire, and we\βre looking for outstanding people to be a part of our team at the 135-acre site.
We\βve made huge investments here that will see Long Marston RIC play a pivotal role in the future of the UK\βs railway, as an exceptional facility to test and trial new traction technologies, securely store rolling stock and provide training in a live environment.
The UK\βs first hydrogen-powered passenger train was built and is being tested by Porterbrook here, and we\βre also the home of the country\βs largest outdoor rail exhibition, Rail Live.

About the role
A great opportunity for an exceptional Safety and Environment Manager, to join the Porterbrook team.
Role PurposeTo support the General Manager β Site and Asset Management to enable the safe delivery of site activities at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre, through the development and implementation of risk-based systems and assurance processes.
To create and champion a safe delivery culture which is deeply embedded across all aspects of the site β including activities conducted by Porterbrook, contractors /3rd parties activity and visitors.
To implement and maintain the environmental management system (EMS) for Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre.
Responsibilities Champion the development of a high performing, safe delivery culture on site in line with Porterbrook\βs vision and values, and drive continued improvement in safety performanceEnsure alignment of health & safety arrangements at Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre (facilities and non-rail activities) with the company health & safety, strategy β working closely with Porterbrook\βs Safety, Standards & Environment ManagerDevelop, implement, and maintain the site health & safety management system (H&SMS) to ensure alignment and compliance with The Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 (ROGS) and achieve and ensure continued certification to ISO 45001:2018Ensure compliance with all applicable health & safety, environmental legislation, and relevant industry standardsDevelop and maintain a site safety risk register, supported by a suite of risk assessments related to all non-rail operations activities conducted on siteIdentify health, safety, and environmental training needs, ensuring that the staff have the relevant levels of accredited competence to fulfil their roles, working closely with the Porterbrook Learning & Development ManagerEnsure suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place for the safety management of contractors β including CDM compliance (where applicable) β including the review and acceptance of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), and issue of site work permitsSafety Management of events taking place on the Long Marston siteInvestigate safety events [accidents/ incidents and near misses], making suitable and sufficient recommendations to prevent recurrence and monitoring the effectiveness of their implementationConduct site safety and environment inspections (planned and unplanned) and audits ensuring that the results of these are recorded and that all open actions are closed in a timely mannerImplement and manage health and safety actions/ recommendations tracking ensuring that the results of these are recorded and that all open actions are closed in a timely mannerProduce regular reports which include site related health & safety, and environment Key Performance Indictors (KPI\βs)Develop Health and Safety alerts, bulletins, notices, ensuring that these are read and understood by all staff employed at the site, regular site users and visitorsConduct regular health and safety briefings and toolbox talks β including delivery to contractors and other 3rd parties where appropriateDevelop, implement, and maintain the site health & safety management system (H&SMS) to ensure alignment, compliance ensure continued certification to ISO 14001:2015 β and ensure ongoing compliance with the agreed site environmental management plan & Biodiversity Net GainProvide assurance of the suitability of safety management arrangements with regard to site buildings, COSHH, fire safety, lifting activities, and use of equipmentAttend meetings on behalf of the General Manager β Operations and Safety as required
