Job Description:
Windows Server Specialist (IT Integration) ( Redeployee Candidates Only )
As a Windows Server Specialist, you will play a critical role in the administration, upgrade, and support of Microsoft Windows Server environments and associated services, including Active Directory, Office 365, Azure, SQL, SCCM, SCOM, and VMware.
You will contribute to both second and third-line support while actively participating in infrastructure integration projects. Your work will help ensure systems are robust, interoperable, and aligned with the university’s strategic objectives—particularly in the context of ongoing merger-related initiatives.
This 12-month fixed-term post will support, either directly or indirectly, technical and operational work arising from the institutional merger. You will work closely with colleagues in Enterprise Technology Services to ensure best practice, system availability, and effective service delivery across backend systems, including networking, datacentres, and telecoms.
Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, and upgrade Windows Server environments and associated Microsoft technologies (e.g. Active Directory, Office 365, Azure).
Provide expert second and third-line support, ensuring service availability and adherence to operational standards.
Lead or contribute to infrastructure integration projects, particularly those supporting merger-related activities.
Automate routine tasks and improve efficiency through scripting (e.g. PowerShell).
Collaborate with teams across networking, datacentre, and telecoms to deliver cohesive backend services.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Office 365, Azure, and virtualisation (VMware). They will have proven experience in scripting (PowerShell), system integration, and supporting enterprise infrastructure. A solid understanding of backup solutions (e.g. Veeam), networking principles, and ITIL-based service delivery is essential. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are key, along with the ability to work independently on complex tasks within a fast-paced, evolving technical environment.
