Our Role

This Technologist role sits within our QA Home team and will cover our Home Textile offer for Bedroom, Bathroom, and Little White Home.

To ensure all products in own departments are approved for safety, legality, and quality (including fitness for purpose), in line with QA processes and critical path.

To develop, manage, and maintain supplier relationships in own departments and ensure transparency of the supply chain regarding Quality and Ethical standards.

To work closely with Buying, DC, and customer-facing teams to provide technical advice to support product development and improvement in own areas of responsibility.

What you\’ll be doing

Product

  • Take responsibility for all technical aspects of own product range(s).
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging legislation applicable to own product area.
  • Deliver product development from initial concept throughout the lifecycle, in line with technical processes and Quality Policy.
  • Stay updated on technological innovations, best practices, and industry standards to drive continuous improvement, including conducting research and benchmarking, evaluating customer feedback, complaints, and returns.
  • Support Buying teams on new product developments, considering customer feedback and technical, environmental, ethical, and legal issues.
  • Contribute minimum safety, legal, and technical requirements to Product Briefs via Generic Specifications for compliant and innovative products.

Process

  • Evaluate products according to the Product Approval Process and critical path requirements.
  • Ensure Technical Files & Specifications are produced and maintained properly.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments on all products within own ranges, ensuring documentation provides robust due diligence.
  • Monitor product performance against quality KPIs and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain Generic Specifications and related documents.
  • Maintain QA Reference Libraries as per procedures.

Suppliers

  • Support development and improvement of suppliers, including factory evaluations, approvals, audits, and review & approval of FAF paperwork and CAP follow-up.
  • Ensure suppliers meet Quality Management Systems standards for safe, legal, and quality products.
  • Work with CSR Manager to ensure suppliers uphold satisfactory Ethical standards.
  • Build strong supplier relationships to meet quality requirements.
  • Communicate specifications, provide feedback on compliance, and recommend improvements.
  • Monitor supplier performance against KPIs and contribute to Supplier Scorecard and Company Strategy.

Personal Development Plan

  • Identify and pursue personal development needs in collaboration with line manager.
  • Implement QA Department initiatives to foster strong internal and external relationships.
  • Deputise for the Senior Technologist as needed.

  • Adhere to health & safety obligations.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required.

The skills & experience that you’ll need

  • Knowledge of textiles relevant to the role.
  • Ability to conduct detailed risk assessments.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and auditing principles.
  • Degree in Scientific or Technical discipline or vocational training relevant to the product area.
  • Experience in a technical role within manufacturing or retail technology.
  • Innovation, relationship-building, customer focus, and teamwork skills.
