Job Summary
The Pilots Management role is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of innovation and development pilots and strategic capital projects in support of evidence gathering, design development and research for the Education Estates directorate.
Job Description
This role is in the Design Team and will report to the Policy Lead and will include project management, procurement, technical and policy responsibilities.
The role will be undertaken by a design/technical/construction professional (for example, landscape architect, surveyor, services engineer or architect) as they will be expected to contribute to the wider activities of the team in specification development, post occupancy evaluation, business of state, supporting the design process as well as their primary role of construction project delivery.
They will work in the unit, which delivers policy, environmental and engineering advice and development, and will be expected to have a good understanding of current and developing construction practices.
They will be responsible for providing a flexible approach to procurement and data gathering to deliver successful forward-looking outcomes. They will need to ensure that the Department’s standards are maintained throughout the procurement and construction processes and should align these with current industry best practice to deliver robust outcomes.
They must be a construction professional, holding a relevant level 6 qualification and or chartership of a relevant professional body, and be able to demonstrate extensive in the delivery and procurement of construction projects and associated services.

- Data gathering and financial reporting,
- Technical contribution to the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and confidence in project management and have a construction background.
They will lead the delivery of a number of strategic pilot projects. They will be experienced in public sector procurement, construction contract forms and systems, and of other widely used contract types.
This role is best suited to someone who thrives in a challenging, creative and rewarding work environment.

Alongside your salary of £56,353, Department for Education contributes £16,325 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.
Applicants currently holding a permanent post in the Civil Service should note that, if successful, their salary on appointment would be determined by the Department’s transfer / promotion policies.

You will have 25 days leave, increasing by 1 day every year to a maximum of 30 days after five years’ service. In addition, all staff receive the King’s Birthday privilege holiday and 8 days’ bank and public holidays.

Terms and conditions of candidates transferring from ALBs and NDPBs
