Associate – Private Equity (Generalist, Family Office-Backed)
Location: London
The Firm
Our client is a privately backed investment platform with over £1bn in permanent capital, deploying flexible equity into high-potential businesses across the UK and Western Europe. Operating at the intersection of private equity and family capital, the firm takes a long-term, hands-on approach to value creation—partnering with founders and management teams to scale operations, professionalise governance, and unlock strategic growth. The team is lean, dynamic, and deeply entrepreneurial, with direct access to capital and full autonomy in investment decisions.
The Opportunity
The incoming Associate will join a close-knit team of investors with full exposure across the deal lifecycle—from origination and due diligence to portfolio strategy and exits. This is a high-responsibility role designed for a sharp, independent thinker who thrives in an unstructured, high-accountability environment. With a generalist remit across sectors such as business services, industrials, consumer, and niche technology, the Associate will be expected to contribute meaningfully to investment decisions from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of core deal workstreams, including financial modelling, valuation, due diligence coordination, and drafting of investment papers
- Support origination efforts, through thematic sourcing, founder outreach, and development of proprietary investment theses
- Conduct hands-on due diligence, collaborating with external advisors to assess financial, commercial, legal, and operational dimensions of target businesses
- Work closely with management teams post-investment, supporting value creation initiatives, board reporting, and strategic growth planning
- Develop and refine sector views, identifying white-space opportunities and monitoring trends across the lower mid-market landscape
- Assist in managing portfolio performance, including KPI tracking, strategic reviews, bolt-on analysis, and eventual exit planning
Candidate Profile
- 3+ years’ experience in investment banking (M&A), private equity, strategy consulting, or transaction advisory with strong execution exposure
- Proven analytical rigour, with the ability to independently build and adapt LBO and cash flow models, and synthesize complex data into actionable insights
- Commercial intuition and intellectual curiosity, with a demonstrated ability to think beyond the numbers and understand business models from the ground up
- Self-starter with a low-ego mindset, comfortable working in a non-hierarchical setting and taking initiative without rigid structure
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the maturity to engage credibly with founders, operators, and co-investors
- Excellent academic credentials; fluency in English is a must, with additional European languages seen as a plus
