18 Jan, 2026# Payroll Manager£58,000 – £62,000 yearly* CV-Library* City of London, London### Job DescriptionCentral LondonHybrid workingPermanent post£58-62k per annum depending on experienceOur client is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join their busy finance departmentDuties include;Oversee end‑to‑end payroll processing for weekly and monthly payrollsEnsure accuracy of all payroll data, calculations, and statutory deductionsManage and support the payroll team with day‑to‑day queries and workloadEnsure compliance with UK legislation (HMRC, NMW/NLW, tax, NI, pensions)Administer statutory payments (SMP, SPP, SAP, SSP)Oversee pension scheme administration (LGPS/TPS or other scheme rules)Conduct regular payroll audits to maintain data integrityManage relationship with external bodies (HMRC, pension providers, auditors)Resolve complex payroll queries escalated by the team and/or employeesManaging a team, lead, motivate, and develop team members to achieve objectivesIdentify training needs and support career growthAllocate resources and manage team workload effectivelyAddress and resolve employee issues promptlyTrack team performance and report to senior managementHold monthly performance reviews and plan actionable steps for improvementProduce payroll reports for Finance, HR, and senior leadershipLead on year‑end processes: P60s, P11Ds, and submission of year‑end returnsEnsure payroll system accuracy and lead on system improvements/upgradesMaintain robust controls and procedures for payroll governanceSupport budgeting and workforce planning through payroll insightsLead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline payroll processesYou will have;Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation & HMRC complianceExcellent understanding of statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP)Strong leadership skills and ability to manage and develop a teamSolid experience with pension schemesHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to resolve complex payroll queries confidentlyAdvanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, reconciliations)Excellent communication skills with staff at all levelsAnalytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and produce reportsAbility to manage deadlines and work under pressureConfidentiality and strong understanding of data protection (GDPR)If you have all of the above, can process payroll from start to finish, including bacs payments, reports and reconciliations and seeking a new challenge, then please apply now!Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
