Our client is a learned society publisher of journals and books based in Brighton and they are looking to hire a Head of Publishing on a part-time permanent basis. The part-time working pattern can range from 0.5-0.6 (equivalent to 2.5 – 3 days per week), and offers hybrid working, requiring minimum 1 day per week (ideally a Tuesday) in the Brighton office. Alongside the hands-on attention to detail / editorial skills, you will have strong influencing skills and empathy, with a sensitivity towards others, as well as the ability to think strategically and see the bigger picture. About you The main remit of the role will be to work with the associations stakeholders including internal staff, Journals and Publications Committees, journal editorial boards, members and external partners to deliver and develop a highly regarded publishing programme comprising six academic journals and two book series, published with external partners. As well as to contribute to the development of regional studies by shaping the publishing programme in collaboration with the community and in response to emerging trends in publishing and the field. You will be responsible to and line managed by the Chief Executive. Note, this position does not carry any line management responsibilities. The main responsibilities of the role will include developing the publishing programme, upholding the portfolios reputation for academic quality and innovation, establishing and maintaining effective systems, contracting editors and managing budgets. supporting the journal editors-in-chief and their editorial boards, managing publishing partnerships and developing strategies for the journals portfolio.supporting the editors of the book series, managing publishing partnerships and developing existing book series and any launched in the future.supporting the Chief Executive and contributing to the relevant sub-Committees that relate to the publishing programme.
