Our client are a well-established groundworks and civil engineering contractor, specialising in infrastructure delivery for new build housing developers. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team and support the delivery of accurate and competitive tenders up to a value of £20 million. This is a hands-on estimating role with a strong emphasis on measurement and technical appraisal. You will be working closely with our Estimating Department to prepare detailed, first-principles estimates for a range of groundworks packages including roads, sewers, drainage, substructures, and external works. Key Responsibilities: Thoroughly review tender drawings, specifications, and documents. Undertake detailed take-offs using 2D and 3D measurement software. Interpret ground conditions from Site Investigation reports. Conduct site visits and assist with risk and opportunity analysis. Raise RFIs where required to clarify scope or missing information. Measure and price work including but not limited to: S104 adoptable sewers & drainage S38 adoptable carriageways S278 highway works Earthworks and cut/fill modelling Foundations and floor slabs Private drainage & attenuation General external works Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations. Liaise with Contracts Managers to review methodology and programme. Build rates from first principles. Prepare bills of quantities (BQ) and supporting tender documentation. Assist with final tender adjudication and presentation to Managing Estimator. The Ideal Candidate We\’re looking for someone confident in groundworks estimation, particularly in a housing development context, who can hit the ground running. Requirements: Minimum 2 years\’ experience in estimating within a groundworks/civils contractor environment. Strong understanding of residential groundworks including roads, sewers, earthworks, and substructure. Excellent ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and site investigation reports. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general MS Office applications. Experienced with take-off and measurement tools (2D & 3D platforms). Knowledge of Causeway or ConQuest estimating software is advantageous. Capable of preparing rates and BQs from first principles. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Highly organised and able to manage time efficiently under deadline pressure. Team player with a proactive and collaborative mindset.
