Role Purpose
The Director of Engineering will play a crucial role within Calastone\’s Engineering Team, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering.
This role involves driving technical excellence, leading high-performing teams, and delivering high-quality products for Calastone\’s Asset Management and Asset Servicing platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Development
- Own the development and growth of a team of engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Provide structured guidance, hands-on mentoring, and candid feedback to support professional growth and team development.
- Identify and nurture emerging engineering talent within the team to ensure continuity of leadership and technical excellence.
- Promote an inclusive, collaborative, and dynamic team environment.
Technical Execution
- Drive the successful delivery of projects and products, ensuring alignment with timelines, quality, and technical standards.
- Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, breaking down complex problems into manageable tasks.
- Champion engineering best practices, including Agile methodologies, version control, continuous integration, and test-driven development.
Innovation and Technology
- Apply expertise in key technologies (C#, Angular, Microsoft Azure, enterprise messaging systems) to lead innovation and address technical debt.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, providing scalable and sustainable solutions.
- Ensure technical documentation, operational readiness, and performance testing are maintained.
Stakeholder Management
- Work with Product, Operations, and Commercial teams to achieve business goals.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Service and Support
- Take an active role in the out-of-hours on-call rota to provide an escalation point for the engineering support teams.
- Ensure appropriate structures and practices are in place to provide continuity of engineering support across the product portfolio.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and long-term remediation of production incidents.
- Advocate for operational excellence, to meet high availability and security standards.
Knowledge & Experience
- Extensive experience leading software development teams with a strong execution track record.
- Deep technical expertise in C#, Angular, Microsoft Azure, enterprise messaging systems and modern database systems.
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of domain driven service-oriented architectures.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and secure software development practices.
- Preferably with experience of the Asset Management industry and fundamental associated concepts.
