Job Description
The Role:
An Instructional Designer focused on enablement and course creation is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing learning experiences that help learners gain knowledge, skills, and competencies. This role involves creating engaging, effective, and learner-centred training programs, often focusing on upskilling employees, customers, or external partners. The goal is to ensure that the designed courses are aligned with organisational objectives and help learners achieve measurable success.
Focus Areas
Include but not limited to:
- Develop end-to-end learning modules, including eLearning courses, instructor-led training (ILT), and blended learning solutions.
- Design instructional materials using various methods, such as video, animations, simulations, case studies, quizzes, and assessments.
- Ensure technical functionality is flexible, compatible with overall SUSE tools, and requires minimal effort for change management.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create a curriculum that aligns with the learners\’ needs and the organisational goals.
- Define clear, measurable learning objectives for each course and ensure alignment with overall training goals.
- Recommend and educate on the necessary tools and resources to enable learners to access and succeed in their training.
- Develop onboarding programs that help new employees or clients get up to speed quickly and efficiently.
- Design training solutions that empower learners to improve performance, knowledge retention, and application in real-world situations.
- Upload and manage learning content in Learning Management Systems (LMS) for easy access and tracking.
- Leverage authoring tools (e.g., Articulate, Adobe, Ispring) to create interactive learning content.
- Stay updated on the latest technologies and trends in instructional design and incorporate them into course creation (e.g., mobile learning, gamification, virtual reality).
- Create quizzes, tests, and practical exercises to evaluate learners\’ understanding and application of the content.
- Gather feedback from learners and stakeholders to refine and improve courses continuously.
- Track learner progress, course completion rates, and engagement metrics to measure the effectiveness of the training program.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive reports and interactive dashboards to effectively communicate key insights and performance metrics to stakeholders.
- Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), product BUs, managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that course content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with organisational goals.
- Partner with HR, Talent Development, and other teams to align learning strategies with organisational needs and to support employee development initiatives.
- Modify existing content or create customised courses based on specific learner needs, whether for internal staff, customers, or partners.
- Manage the end-to-end course creation process, from conceptualisation to launch, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
- Coordinate resources, including SMEs, content developers, and other stakeholders, to ensure successful project completion.
- Prioritise work efforts to optimise productivity and reduce cycle time. Recommend alternative solutions to design and ETA challenges.
Skills Needed
- Master’s degree or graduate certificate/diploma in Educational Technology or Instructional Technology
- At least 10+ years of experience in instructional design, course development, or learning enablement.
- Strong project management skills
- Exceptional communication skills, encompass clear and articulate verbal and written communication, active listening, and the ability to adapt communication style to diverse audiences and situations.
- Prior experience designing corporate training programs or educational content for specific industries is preferred.
- Familiarity with creating courses for diverse learning environments (e.g., online, blended, or in-person).
- Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia).
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course deployment and tracking.
- Knowledge of multimedia production and editing software is an asset.
