K.A.G. Recruitment is pleased to present an exciting opportunity for a Logistics & Transport Manager to join our client, a leading Food Manufacturing company based in Birmingham. This role offers a chance to contribute to expanding operations, coordinating, and optimizing transportation activities across the business.

Salary:
Up to £55,000 + KPI Bonus
Hours:
Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 4:30pm, Friday 8:30am to 2:00pm (potential for one day remote work per week)
Your Role
You will oversee and coordinate all transportation activities within the supply chain, ensuring efficient scheduling of livestock transport, liaising with internal teams (procurement, rearing, finishing, supply chain planning), and maintaining high standards of operational efficiency, compliance, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Transport & Logistics Coordination
- Plan, book, and manage transport for livestock movements, ensuring efficiency and schedule adherence.
- Optimize logistics planning to minimize costs while maintaining animal welfare standards and delivery timelines.
- Develop and implement contingency plans for transport disruptions.
- Negotiate rates, contracts, and service-level agreements with transport providers.
Internal Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the main liaison between procurement, farms, and supply chain teams to align transportation with operational needs.
- Provide real-time updates on transport schedules, delays, and issues affecting supply chain performance.
- Maintain clear communication with drivers and hauliers, ensuring compliance with company policies.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure transportation activities comply with Red Tractor policies, animal welfare regulations, DEFRA guidelines, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records including vehicle logs, safety checks, and compliance documentation.
- Implement biosecurity measures to safeguard livestock health during transport.
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor KPIs such as cost per journey, efficiency, and on-time performance, and pursue improvements.
- Identify and adopt innovative transport solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
- Collaborate with data and operations teams to improve planning and forecasting.
Key Skills
Experience in managing scheduling, route planning, and supplier negotiations is essential, along with effective communication skills between internal departments and external suppliers. Ability to handle logistical challenges, last-minute changes, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation within a fast-paced environment is required. Knowledge of UK transport regulations, logistics management software, Excel, and data tracking tools is necessary. Experience in agriculture, livestock, or food sectors is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided. A full UK Driver\’s License is mandatory.
