The Trust Cancer Manager is the organisational lead for the delivery of the national Cancer Agenda working closely with the Trust\’s leadership teams and Cancer Alliance partners to ensure National Cancer Waiting Times for the Trust are met and to provide oversight and expert technical advice to divisions to support pathway improvements to increase performance.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring an effective business model is in place that delivers the agreed strategy.
The post holder will provide leadership and strategic direction to the Cancer Pathway Team to maintain and develop a fit for purpose infrastructure to ensure effective practice and quality standards at the Trust working to deadlines to ensure data and performance is validated and adhering to National guidelines. They will manage the day to day operational function of the Cancer Pathway Team to action and report performance targets on all aspects of cancer to achieve key national and local objectives within targets, working with clinical colleagues to achieve the requirements of the Cancer Outcomes and Services Dataset (CSOD).
Working closely with the Trust Cancer Lead Clinician and Nurse the post holder will develop and deliver a business model to embed a Cancer strategy for the Trust, providing support to multi-disciplinary teams to deliver key objectives aligned to the Trust\’s 6 strategic objectives.
- To undertake first line management of the Cancer Operational Lead, Cancer Data Lead, Cancer MDT-Co-ordinators and Cancer Pathway Navigators and oversee management of Cancer Support Assistants & Cancer Support Facilitators prioritising work of the team to ensure performance indicators are met, delegating duties where needed.
- To promote a high-performance culture and ensure that all staff in the Cancer Pathway Team are fully aware of the obligations and adhere to Trusts policies and procedures and have the ability to take remedial action, eg. performance management and disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Works with the Chief Operating Officer and Divisional Operational Management and Leadership teams in leading the delivery of Cancer standards.
- To support and shape the development of the Cancer service working closely with other key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and the ability to build and develop systematic and continuous improvement.
- Ensure that effective systems and processes are in place to support patient and public involvement so that patients and the public are appropriately involved in any service developments
- Develop an understanding of the Trust\’s business planning methodologies, information sources, costing arrangements and assessments and assessment of income under national tariff arrangements to support business planning processes.
