FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Network Product Support Engineer to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Solihull.

You will be working with cutting-edge network infrastructure technologies in a dynamic IT environment, this role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimising infrastructure components to ensure high availability and performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

This role will specialise in supporting network infrastructure products, with a strong focus on leveraging the Microsoft Intune platform for mobile device management (MDM). The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing platforms like Samsung Knox, Apple device management via Intune, and ChromeOS management through Google. This role also requires a solid understanding of MDM and Mobile Application Management (MAM) solutions from third-party providers.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 3rd-line technical support to local and remote staff, ensuring swift resolution of complex issues
  • Provide specialised support to VIP users, ensuring high availability and exceptional service quality
  • Participate in incident management processes, including root cause analysis and resolution of infrastructure-related incidents
  • Evaluate and support third-party solutions
  • Lead and contribute to multiple IT projects
  • Work closely with technology teams to identify and resolve recurring issues
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to design and implement innovative deployment processes for hardware and software
  • Influence technology strategies and IT policies, emphasising a data-driven and user-focused approach
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in network technologies, to recommend best practices and solutions

Requirements

  • Certification in network technologies
  • Solid understanding of network design
  • Demonstrable experience leading a major project
  • Experience with scripting or automation to enhance device deployment and support processes
  • Knowledge of security best practices for network technologies
  • Knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
  • Familiarity with switching protocols like STP, VLANs, and Trunking
  • Awareness of security protocols including IPsec, SSL/TLS, and AAA (RADIUS, TACACS+)
  • Understanding of application layer protocols such as HTTP, DNS, and DHCP
  • Experience with network devices from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Arista, etc.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other security appliances
  • Experience with load balancing technologies and strategies
  • Familiarity with wireless networking standards and equipment
  • Understanding of cloud networking concepts and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV)
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios
  • Proficient in ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management
