Position Overview:

We are seeking a Captain to join our Marine Operations team based in Falmouth, MA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating a 25-foot vessel, ensuring the safety of all passengers on board, and the safe navigation of the vessel in accordance with all COLREGs. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless maritime operations.

This is a full-time position split between two Captains to maintain consistent service coverage. The goal is to ensure safe, reliable ferry service to Martha’s Vineyard for flight crews and personnel year-round, while mitigating risks related to scheduling or mechanical disruptions.

Key Responsibilities:

Area of Responsibility (AOR): Vineyard Sound, with homeport in Falmouth, MA and destination Vineyard Haven, MA.
Operate a 25-foot Response Boat Small (RBS) vessel in all weather conditions.
Perform mooring, docking, and line-handling evolutions.
Ensure the safety and conduct of all crew, passengers, and vessel operations.
Conduct fueling evolutions safely and in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Record Keeping
Support Ground Operations at Martha’s Vineyard Airport, as directed.
Perform vessel maintenance, including:
Routine cleanliness and upkeep
Preventative maintenance
Electrical system checks
Outboard engine monitoring and basic service
Execute other duties as assigned by supervisor, including support for helicopter operations and related ground logistics.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Required:

Active Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with OUPV or Master 25, 50, or 100 GRT Near Coastal endorsement.
Minimum 4 years of experience in a captain or similar maritime role.
Demonstrated knowledge of COLREGs, navigation, boat handling, SOLAS, risk assessment, and leadership.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Preferred:

Honda Outboard Technician certification.
Reside within 30 minutes of Falmouth, MA.
Possess a Master endorsement on MMC.
Radar experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude
Skills & Competencies:

Strong boat handling, especially in challenging marine conditions.
Proficient in paper and electronic navigation systems.
Working knowledge of emergency protocols and marine weather forecasting.
Effective communicator with excellent problem-solving abilities.
Ability to stay calm and focused under pressure.
Strong organizational skills and attention to safety standards.
Experience operating DOD/DHS small boat platforms.
Mechanical aptitude with basic knowledge of marine electrical and propulsion systems.
Reliable and self-motivated, with a flexible approach to tasks and teamwork.
