Static Band 6 Physiotherapist on Medicine and Surgery
Job Summary
The opportunity has arisen for a band 6 physiotherapist to join the Medicine and Surgery team at Stepping Hill Hospital (Poplar Grove, Stockport, SK2 7JE). This role is ideal for a current band 6 or band 5 physiotherapist ready to progress in their career. The post is open to a band 5 physiotherapist who is keen to progress but not yet sure if they are ready for band 6; please contact for further information about the support we can offer.
Main duties of the job
Our team comprises physiotherapists, occupational therapists, technical instructors and therapy assistants covering a range of medical and surgical specialities. You will gain experience across:
- Intensive Care
- High Dependency
- Surgery
- Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (pre‑operative involvement)
- Gastroenterology
- Acute Respiratory
- Cardiology
- Endocrinology
- Complex Medicine
- Elderly Medicine
- Outpatient Respiratory Clinic
Access to your own car with a valid driver’s licence is required to travel across the Stockport locality for on‑call emergency service provision (or suitable alternative transport arrangements).
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
- State registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
- Experience working with individuals with complex long‑term health conditions and within allocated specialties
- Experience supporting junior staff, support staff and students
- Previous experience of respiratory on‑call (preferred)
- Substantial experience in hospital covering various rotations including medicine, ICU, surgery and neuro
- Experience of clinical governance, including audit and risk
Essential Knowledge
- Standardised assessments for specific conditions
- Therapy outcome measures for specific conditions
- Knowledge of NICE guidance, current research and recommended practice
- Principles of clinical governance
- Intermediate care and community/support services
- Discharge planning processes
Essential Skills & Abilities
- Application of health, safety and risk management policies
- Supervisory skills
- Training and facilitation skills

- Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 a year pro rata per annum (Band 6)

This vacancy requires an enhanced DBS check (cost £54.90, deducted from first salary). You will also join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
