We are looking for a team member to be responsible for supporting the successful execution of our clients Operational Risk Management programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust operational risk management frameworks and strategies, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. This role involves extensive collaboration with stakeholders across multiple business units to assess and mitigate risks, conduct risk assessments, and provide regular reporting to key stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the operational risk incident process from identification through to resolution. Conducting root-cause analyses of significant events or near-misses, determining underlying causes, and working with stakeholders to implement preventive measures and control enhancements.
  • Overseeing the complaints handling processes and identifying root causes for customer complaints, assessing customer complaints trends and risk implications and ensuring complaints are handled within policy thresholds and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the deployment of a comprehensive Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) programme, including methodologies, guidelines, and reporting frameworks.
  • Monitoring and reporting on operational risk exposure using Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), loss data, and control metrics. Designing KRI dashboards and operational risk reports for local senior management and risk committees.
  • Ensuring that bank policies and procedures are up-to-date, clearly communicated, and adhered to by first-line business units.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of a robust business continuity framework and strategies aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements, including identifying critical business processes, completion of Business Impact Assessments as well as deploying crisis management protocols and incident response procedures.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to business units, providing independent risk oversight and guidance. Challenging control weaknesses and working collaboratively to embed risk management into daily operations.
  • Undertaking ad hoc projects, local initiatives, and programmes at the request of Senior Management to strengthen the overall operational risk framework and align jurisdictional efforts.
  • Contributing to and continually improving the Operational Risk processes/procedures; ensuring they align with overall Group culture, governance and strategies.
  • Developing and delivering training on operational risk policies, incident reporting, and business continuity to all employees. Fostering a strong risk-aware culture through regular communication, workshops and lessons learned updates.
  • Building professional relationships with internal stakeholders to consult on risk management initiatives, driving efficiency of business operations and process enhancements.
  • Relevant and regular training sessions to be maintained regarding Operational Risk, RCSA and Business Continuity matters in order to maintain and upskill knowledge.

Your qualifications and skills include:

  • 8 or more years relevant experience of risk management in a financial services firm or similar industry or regulated environment
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management principles and tools (e.g., Basel standards) and experience with risk management systems or GRC platforms is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Channel Islands banking regulations and GFSC requirements as well as prior experience working in the Bailiwick of Guernsey or similar offshore/regulatory environment is a strong advantage.
  • Sound understanding of internal control frameworks, including design and evaluation of controls.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams and to work to tight deadlines.
