Our client is a fast-growing and entrepreneurial bank that provides a range of innovative lending products to fast-growing and entrepreneurial businesses. Substantially-backed and highly profitable, it deploys cutting-edge data analytics and deep sector knowledge in a way that all other commercial lenders aspire to.

The Role:

  • Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer to lead the bank\’s credit risk management committees and refine the credit risk policy and appetite to maintain growth whilst protecting the quality and quantity of business written.
  • Reporting and insight to the Board on key risk indicators and portfolio performance.
  • Leading, inspiring and growing a high-performing credit risk team.
  • Working with and collaborating closely with the bank Board and commercial functions to maximise new business potential.
  • Managing credit underwriting standards, portfolio balance and impairment frameworks.
  • Driving transformation initiatives across credit policies, systems and workflows to enhance productivity and performance.

The Candidate:

  • A dynamic credit leader with commerciality and sound judgement and who can thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
  • 10+ years in SME or Commercial Credit risk and a proven track record in senior leadership roles. The likely candidate will have extensive experience of Commercial Banking or a similar area of SME commercial lending. This is not investment banking, wholesale banking or consumer-focussed finance. The emphasis is on credit underwriting for SME trading businesses and commercial real estate finance, with facilities typically in the £1 million to £50 million range.
  • Someone who can balance credit governance at policy level, manage risk across a portfolio and dive into the detail at customer level.
  • Commercially minded and energised and inspired by working closely with a high profile Board, ambitious businesses and highly-driven customers and colleagues.
  • Able to work collaboratively across the bank and keen to deploy the best technology and judgement to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Possess a deep understanding of credit risk regulation, credit-risk modelling, policy and portfolio management.
  • Passionate about nurturing talent and building a best-in-class credit risk function.
  • Keen to embrace and utilise the best in automation, AI and new technologies.
