Infrastructure Engineer (Azure focus)

Bolton/Manchester, Hybrid

Scope & Responsibilities:

Team & Functional Scope

  • Accountable for the seamless operation, stability, and continuous improvement of the enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with IT leadership and third-party partners to deliver resilient, secure, and scalable infrastructure services.
  • Act as a key liaison between internal stakeholders, managed service providers, and external vendors to ensure operational continuity and alignment with business objectives.

Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day performance and availability of core infrastructure systems, including networks, servers, storage, and cloud services.
  • Monitor infrastructure platforms proactively to ensure optimal service delivery and adherence to SLAs.
  • Manage and coordinate infrastructure upgrades, ensuring compliance with established change control processes.
  • Work with IT service delivery partners to maintain infrastructure health, security, and compliance across all business units.

Service Operations & Technical Support

  • Provide third-line support across infrastructure layers, supporting internal users and IT service desk teams.
  • Maintain and enforce access management protocols for infrastructure components and enterprise applications.
  • Lead incident resolution efforts involving infrastructure systems, ensuring timely escalation to third-party experts when required.

Vendor & Supplier Governance

  • Collaborate with Group Head of Infra, and strategic partners to support delivery of infrastructure-related projects, ensuring compliance with scope, timelines, and budget.
  • Act as a key escalation point for IT service desk providers, coordinating efficient resolution of technical incidents and service requests.

Information Security & Compliance

  • Monitor and enhance Microsoft 365 security posture across the organization.
  • Manage the configuration and policy enforcement of Microsoft Intune, including compliance and device security baselines.
  • Oversee vulnerability management and endpoint patching activities in partnership with external security consultancies.
  • Administer firewall configurations and ensure consistent deployment across all locations and platforms.
  • Maintain antivirus solutions and ensure comprehensive endpoint protection.
  • Govern all cloud-based third-party services to align with the group’s risk management and information security framework.

Project Delivery & Infrastructure Strategy

  • Deliver infrastructure-related projects aligned to the group’s strategic IT roadmap.
  • Provide regular reporting on project status, risks, milestones, and costs to HGI and other stakeholders.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives where infrastructure alignment is critical.

Software & Platform Configuration

  • Administer and evolve the organization’s SharePoint environment, including governance, structure, and permissions.
  • Manage SSO integrations and ensure consistent authentication practices across critical platforms and services.

Unified Communications & Device Management

  • Manage the group’s cloud-based telephony platform, ensuring stability, scalability, and compliance.
  • Oversee enterprise mobile and tablet infrastructure, enforcing policy compliance via MDM/Intune solutions.

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

  • Ensure all infrastructure systems are backed up regularly, with recovery points and RTOs aligned to business requirements.
  • Maintain and test backup and restore procedures, escalating critical risks as necessary.
  • Coordinate and perform disaster recovery tests across infrastructure environments.
  • Contribute to organizational business continuity planning with a focus on IT infrastructure readiness.

Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as MCSE, MCP, CCNA (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Bachelor\’s degree or equivalent qualification in IT or related field.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Proven experience in delivering proactive infrastructure support within complex IT environments.
  • Deep expertise in administering and securing Microsoft 365, Azure, and related cloud platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience in regulated or compliance-heavy industries (e.g., ITIL, Cyber Essentials).

Strong working knowledge of:

  • Active Directory, Intune, AutoPilot, Defender for Endpoint
  • LAN/WAN, network routing, Cisco/Meraki, firewalls
  • Email security, web filtering, antivirus, Wi-Fi management
  • Teams-integrated VoIP systems and mobile device management
  • Familiarity with structured IT service operations, including incident, change, and problem management processes governed by SLAs.
