Overview

A leading national security and defence technology organisation is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join their London team. You’ll lead the design, development, and delivery of secure, scalable platforms that underpin critical government and national security systems.

This senior role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring junior engineers, setting engineering standards, and driving high-quality delivery across projects. You’ll work on cutting-edge cloud, automation, and containerisation technologies while contributing to the UK’s resilience and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of secure, production-ready platforms.
• Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts to demonstrate technical solutions.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting best practices in software and platform engineering.
• Work collaboratively across Agile teams, embedding engineering standards and automation frameworks.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and static code analysis to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Collaborate on cloud infrastructure and containerised solutions (AWS/Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Contribute to architecture, platform design decisions, and operational scalability.

Skills & Experience Required

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI/CD, automation and configuration management tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, Ansible, Terraform).
• Expertise in version control systems (Git, Mercurial, Perforce).
• Proven experience designing and delivering production-ready systems and prototypes.
• Familiarity with Agile environments (Scrum, Lean, Kanban) and strong collaboration skills.
• Understanding of software design patterns and engineering best practices.
• Programming skills in Python, Java, .NET, or JavaScript.
