Guidance Counselor – $10,000 Sign-On Bonus for 2025/26 School Year!

Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system in Flint, Michigan, has a proud tradition of community education. We offer a range of academic, extended services, and extracurricular activities at elementary and secondary levels to meet our students\’ and families\’ needs.

Essential Functions:

• Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for students in grades 7-12.
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to support students and enhance educational effectiveness.
• Use student achievement data to guide course selection and advocate for student needs.
• Work with students and staff to address academic and behavioral issues impacting learning.
• Identify resources to support students\’ academic and personal success.
• Monitor attendance daily for each student.
• Assist in developing the Master Schedule of classes.
• Implement intervention strategies for student absences.
• Maintain a student database with relevant data (attendance, grades, assessments).
• Counsel students on scheduling classes.
• Act as a liaison among teachers, parents, and students to resolve issues.
• Guide students through educational, career, and personal/social development.
• Support students in accessing post-secondary opportunities.
• Refer students to community resources in consultation with parents.
• Complete required statistical reports.

Qualifications:

Michigan Department of Education Secondary School Counselor endorsement or School Counselor Certificate required.
