Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system in Flint, Michigan, has a proud tradition of community education. We offer a range of academic, extended services, and extracurricular activities at elementary and secondary levels to meet our students\’ and families\’ needs.
Essential Functions:
- Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for students in grades 7-12.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to support students and enhance educational effectiveness.
- Use student achievement data to guide course selection and advocate for student needs.
- Work with students and staff to address academic and behavioral issues impacting learning.
- Identify resources to support students\’ academic and personal success.
- Monitor attendance daily for each student.
- Assist in developing the Master Schedule of classes.
- Implement intervention strategies for student absences.
- Maintain a student database with relevant data (attendance, grades, assessments).
- Counsel students on scheduling classes.
- Act as a liaison among teachers, parents, and students to resolve issues.
- Guide students through educational, career, and personal/social development.
- Support students in accessing post-secondary opportunities.
- Refer students to community resources in consultation with parents.
- Complete required statistical reports.
Qualifications:
Michigan Department of Education Secondary School Counselor endorsement or School Counselor Certificate required.
