Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Initial 3 6-month contract + Likely extensions
Location: Wigan, Bolton, Burnley, Warrington
Rate: Up to £32.00p/h DOE (Limited Outside IR35 / PAYE / Umbrella)
Shifts: Panama Days and Nights
High Speed / Machinery / Automation

We are currently recruiting an Electrical Maintenance Engineer on a contract basis for a leading client based in the Northwest. This well-established company is renowned for its innovation in the design and production of secure documents, including currency and other high-security items.

Responsibilities for the Maintenance Engineer role include:

  • Managing reactive breakdowns and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) to ensure plant efficiency
  • Working on critical plant machinery including presses, conveyors, packaging machines, and sorting systems
  • Fault finding, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, including PLCs, drives, motors, and control panels
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards in a high-volume industrial production environment
  • Logging and reporting necessary maintenance and operational data in accordance with internal processes
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining plant performance

Key skills and attributes required:

  • Time-served electrical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Strong experience with electrical systems, including PLC fault finding, drives, motors, and automation systems
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Proactive, self-driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with a focus on maintenance improvements
