Organizational Overview

Inclusive Prosperity is a national, African Canadian-led not-for-profit organization working to eliminate systemic barriers in agriculture and food entrepreneurship for racialized equity-deserving communities. We aim to advance food justice, land ownership, and community-led food systems across Canada through our two funds: the African Canadian Farmers Fund and the Nourish Fund, designed respectively to provide people of African descent with capital for farmland acquisition and loans to urban food and farm entrepreneurs. Our national mandate focuses on inclusive community engagement, equitable access to capital, and building sustainable, community-owned food systems from coast to coast.

About the Role

We are seeking a committed and resourceful Sustainable Agriculture Field Lead to support a unique land stewardship initiative in Tiverton , Ontario. This pilot project is a collaboration between Ontario Farmland Trust (OFT), Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario BIPOC Network (EFAO), and Inclusive Prosperity. The role is designed to support both new entrants and established farmers who are engaged in sustainable farming, livestock rearing, and/or beekeeping.

This position is designated for an Indigenous or racialized person as part of our commitment to building a team that reflects the communities we serve.

Role Responsibilities

Crop Production

  • Provide support to farmers engaged in ecological crop production, including field preparation, planting, crop rotation, cover cropping and harvesting.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations and troubleshooting related to soil health, pest management, and seasonal crop planning.
  • Help manage greenhouse operations, including seedling propagation, climate control, and pest/disease management.
  • Contribute to sustainable agricultural practices, including composting, wastewater management, and Integrated Pest Management; and support the setup and maintenance of drip irrigation systems.

Livestock Management

  • Provide hands-on support to farmers engaged in small-to-medium-scale livestock production, including poultry, goats, sheep, and/or cattle etc.
  • Support sustainable husbandry practices, including rotational grazing, pasture management, and the use of sustainable feed
  • Oversee ecological and humane livestock practices, including species-appropriate shelter design, housing strategies, and winter management.
  • Coordinate with veterinarians or advisors to support preventive care and emergency response.
  • Support hay production through the seeding, management, and harvesting of forage or grain crops.
  • Assist with navigating local regulations or certifications related to livestock.
  • Provide support with the setup and delivery of workshops or peer learning activities on sustainable livestock management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge or skill in operating basic farm equipment, including a Kubota tractor.
  • Provide support to farmers engaged in small-scale apiculture (beekeeping), including hive setup, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Assist with monitoring hive health, honey extraction, and pest or disease management.
  • Promote pollinator health through ecological management practices.
  • Coordinate with farmers to integrate beekeeping into broader farm planning.
  • Serve as a key liaison for farmers, the project team, and partner organizations.
  • Support the delivery of workshops on financial literacy, farm business management, and sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Collaborate with the Project Coordinator to collect and report data as part of the pilot evaluation.
  • Engage with farmers and partners to ensure alignment with project goals and responsiveness to community needs.

Who You Are

  • You identify as an Indigenous or racialized person and bring lived experience that informs your approach to equity, community work, and relationship-building.
  • You have experience supporting Indigenous and racialized farmers and understand the opportunities and systemic challenges they face.
  • You are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with diverse partners.
  • You have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (strongly preferred).

  • You are a strong communicator and problem-solver with the ability to navigate complex environments.
  • You are proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft 365, and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom.

  • You are organized, dependable, and motivated by community-centred impact.
