Assistant Collection Manager: Storage and Moves (x3 vacant positions) - London

Role Summary Assistant Collection Manager: Storage and Moves Collection Projects and Resources Full-time (41 hours per week) Fixed term (6 months) £28,144 per annum Application deadline: 12pm (midday) on 4 February 2025 About the role: Responsible for the preparation, movement and storage of objects as part of major storage move projects, with a particular focus on large 3D objects. There is also the potential to work with archaeological assemblages where necessary. This role is primarily technical. Problem solving is a key aspect of the role, and a flexible approach to working is essential. The post-holder will be expected to work at the main Museum site at Bloomsbury. There may be occasional work at the Museum’s off-site store in Hackney. Please note we will be recruiting for 3 roles. Key areas of responsibility: To facilitate the movement, packing and rehouse of large 3D objects across the collections To observe best practice in all aspects of object handling and collections storage To monitor security of objects and to maintain them in good condition in storage and in transit To maintain and update essential object documentation, including location information and photography To follow Integrated Pest Management procedures About you: Good general education including GCSEs or equivalent Demonstrable interest in aspects of the Museum’s collections Manual dexterity IT skills Understanding and appreciation of materials and objects Ability to work well as part of team Self-motivated and able to use initiative About the British Museum: Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history and culture.
