  • This role offers hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home, or from one of our offices when you are not travelling.
  • Permanent Contract, 3 days per week (0.6 FTE).

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of Children and Young People in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

As a Teacher of CYP with Hearing Impairments, you will be developing your specialist skills to work with children and young people who are hearing impaired. You will be an outstanding practitioner where you will make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people in Somerset.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Supporting the learning and development of children and young people with hearing impairment attending early years, mainstream and special education settings in Somerset and develop practice that is inclusive of hearing impairment.
  • Carry out specialist assessments and deliver programmes of support for children and young people with hearing impairment aged 0-18 and up to 25 with an EHCP.
  • Support the understanding of hearing impairment through delivery of training to a range of professionals and families.
  • Assist the local authority in fulfilling its statutory duties towards CYP with hearing impairment.
  • Work in partnership with and offering guidance to settings, professionals and families.

This is a pivotal role reporting to the Lead Teacher for the Sensory Support Team, providing a mentorship programme for all new members of staff.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Have Qualified Teacher status and the mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Young People with Hearing Impairments or will be willing to acquire.
  • Have successful and recent experience in teaching a wide range of pupils in mainstream settings (including those with additional needs).
  • Have the ability to travel on a daily basis to settings and homes that may not be supported by local bus services.
