Alternative Provision Tutor – Gateshead
TP Tutors are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Alternative Provision Tutors to deliver high-quality, personalised education to Key Stage 3 and 4 students across Gateshead. This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about supporting young people who have faced barriers to learning, including those with SEMH or SEND needs, and who thrive on helping students re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way.
The Role
- Deliver engaging, individualised lessons across a range of subjects, tailored to meet each learner’s academic and emotional needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor and record progress using our bespoke online platform, providing constructive feedback to pupils and staff.
- Work collaboratively with SENCOs, pastoral teams, and behaviour support staff to ensure each pupil receives holistic support.
- Promote students’ social, emotional, and personal development, encouraging resilience, confidence, and self-belief.
What we’re looking for
- Experience teaching Key Stage 3 and 4, ideally within an alternative provision, EOTAS, or SEND setting.
- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by pupils in non-mainstream education.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with pupils, parents, and professionals.
- Ability to plan and deliver adaptive, inclusive lessons that promote engagement and progress.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and emotional regulation.
- A relevant teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE) or significant tutoring/mentoring experience in education.
- A Child-Only Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one via TP Tutors).
Desirable
- Experience in trauma-informed or behaviour management practices.
- Knowledge of Functional Skills and core subject delivery.
- Previous work within alternative provision or similar educational environments.
