Join the paw-some team at Rudie\’s Kitchen, part of Butternut Box, where we cook up tails of success and wagging tails. We\’re looking for hard-working dog lovers (and animals) to join our manufacturing team in Blyth, Doncaster. In return for your tail-wagging dedication, we offer a competitive wage of £12.84 per hour plus a shift premium of 20% (£15.41 per hour) base salary is £27,468, with 20% (£32,961).
You might know this role as a Machine Operator, Machine Technician, or Manufacturing Technician, but in Butternut we call this a Skilled Operator.

At Butternut, our mission is to deliver health and happiness to dogs and their humans all over the world. We need a hard-working team, and a big kitchen to make it possible. Rudie\\\’s Kitchen is located in Blyth, Doncaster (just off the Junction of A1(M) and A614 Hill Top Roundabout, Blyth S81 8HG). We will be packaging our meals and boxing them for our customers across the UK. We are a close-knit team with a family feel and are looking to welcome more like-minded people to our team to keep work life fun and enjoyable.
Role type
We are pleased to say this is a full-time permanent contract. You will be working an average of 41 hours per week on a shift rotation with a mixture of days and nights and some weekend working. Day shifts are 7am to 7pm and night shifts are 7pm to 7am.
Shifts may include:
- 4 on, 4 off = 2 days, 2 nights
- 5 on, 5 off = 3 days, 2 nights
- 5 on, 5 off = 2 days, 3 nights
A bit about the role
- Work safely following all appropriate safety procedures and wear protective equipment correctly at all times
- Drive line performance and diagnose operational issues with the lines
- Conduct quality checks to ensure product specifications are met
- Perform machine/equipment hygiene and changeovers
- Prepare ingredients for production and mix recipes
- Operate production line equipment to the agreed settings
- Handle general tasks such as waste processing and order packing
- Work to relevant standards and KPIs
- Attend daily review meetings and participate in online performance reviews
- Maintain general facility hygiene (floors, walls, conveyors) and practice a clean-as-you-go approach
- Previous machine operative experience in a food manufacturing environment is desirable
- Strong knowledge of heavy-duty and high-speed machinery
- Excellent knowledge of safety methods and hazard regulations
- Working level of speaking English
- Ability to read English
- Numerate and able to work with numbers
- Comfortable working in a chilled environment
- Comfortable working with raw proteins (lamb, pork, turkey, chicken)
