Join the paw-some team at Rudie\’s Kitchen, part of Butternut Box, where we cook up tails of success and wagging tails.

We\’re looking for hard-working dog lovers (and animals) like you to join our manufacturing team in Blyth, Doncaster. In return for your dedication, we offer a competitive wage of £12.84 per hour plus a shift premium of 20% (£15.41 per hour). The base salary is £27,468, with a 20% increase to £32,961.

You might know this role as a Machine Operator, Machine Technician, or Manufacturing Technician, but at Butternut, we call this a Skilled Operator.

At Butternut, our mission is to deliver health and happiness to dogs and their humans worldwide. To achieve this, we need a dedicated team and a large kitchen, which we have built specifically for this purpose.

Located in Blyth, Doncaster (just off the Junction of A1(M) and A614 Hill Top Roundabout, S81 8HG), Rudie\’s Kitchen is where our meals (currently 12 recipes) are gently cooked using human-quality ingredients. It’s also where we package and box our meals for customers across the UK. We foster a close-knit, family-like environment and are eager to welcome more like-minded people to keep work fun and enjoyable.

Employment Details

This is a full-time, permanent role with an average of 41 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, and some weekends. Shifts typically run from 7am to 7pm for days and 7pm to 7am for nights, with rotations such as:

  • 4 days on, 4 days off (2 days, 2 nights)
  • 5 days on, 5 days off (3 days, 2 nights)
  • 5 days on, 5 days off (2 days, 3 nights)

A bit about the role

  • Work safely, following all safety procedures and wearing protective equipment consistently
  • Drive line performance and diagnose operational issues
  • Conduct quality checks to meet product specifications
  • Perform machine hygiene and changeovers
  • Prepare ingredients and mix recipes
  • Operate production line equipment to set standards
  • Perform general tasks such as waste processing and order packing
  • Work to relevant standards and KPIs
  • Attend daily review meetings and performance reviews
  • Maintain facility hygiene, following \’clean as you go\’ practices

Requirements:

  • Previous machine operative experience in food manufacturing (essential)
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty, high-speed machinery
  • Understanding of safety methods and hazard regulations
  • English speaking and reading proficiency
  • Numeracy skills
  • Comfortable working in a chilled environment and handling raw proteins (lamb, pork, turkey, chicken)
  • Committed to food quality and a supportive team player
