GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Additional Needs Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEN school in Grimsby. This school supports pupils with a wide range of complex needs, including severe learning difficulties (SLD), autism (ASD), physical disabilities, and communication challenges. The school provides a safe and nurturing setting where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential through personalised and inclusive learning.
As an Additional Needs Support Assistant, you will be responsible for providing one-to-one and small group support for students with complex needs. You ll work closely with class teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver tailored support, encourage independence, and help maintain a calm and structured classroom environment.
Additional Needs Support Assistant Responsibilities:
- Support students in accessing a modified curriculum, tailored to their individual learning needs
- Work closely with the class teacher to implement EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies
- Assist with personal care and mobility when required, maintaining the dignity and comfort of all pupils
- Promote communication using tools such as PECS, Makaton, or other assistive methods
- Foster a supportive, positive atmosphere that encourages emotional regulation and engagement
- Work collaboratively with the wider school team to ensure consistent and holistic support
What we need:
- Experience working in a SEN school or similar environment as an Additional Needs Support Assistant or similaris desirable
- A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or similar
- Knowledge of complex needs including ASD, SLD, and sensory processing differences
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
- Willingness to assist with personal care where needed
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Have an updated CV and a current enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply
