I am a disabled gentleman who uses a wheelchair and live in Hawick with my mother. I am looking for someone to join my existing team of workers assisting me with all aspects of my care. You will support and encourage my independence.
I require assistance with personal care, particularly in the mornings and at night. A hoist is used for all transfers and up to date moving & handling training is essential. This can be arranged if required.
I’m pretty laid back and need people who can give me my own space and be respectful of my wishes. When I am at home, I require someone to be around in case I need something e.g. giving me my food and drinks, assist me to move to my computer or in front of the TV etc.
Hours of Work
Mornings
- Mondays & Thursdays (plus alternative Fridays and Saturdays) – 9-9.30am start (1-1.50 hours).
Evenings
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Saturday and Sunday nighttime support around 9.30pm to 10pm depending on activities – 1-hour approx. Saturday may be included longer term too.
Possible additional hours may be offered depending on experience. Holiday and sick-cover may also be considered.
Terms and Conditions
- Hourly Rate of Pay – 12.70 per hour depending on experience.
- Paid annual leave entitlement of 5.6 weeks pro rata.
- Post subject to successful checks and probationary periods.
- Probationary period of 6 months
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
I am currently looking for an additional support worker(s) to help with both morning and evening routine. Clear and precise guidance will be given by my mother; however, a summary of duties includes the following:
- Morning – Physio programme assistance, using hoist, assist me out of bed, then full support to shave, shower, oral care, continence care, then get me dressed and support to my wheelchair. Tidying of the shower area and my bedroom before going downstairs for breakfast.
- Bedtime– full assistance with oral care via a robust routine, washing, change into nightwear, and safely transfer into bed. Positioning of physio equipment for passive stretching and relaxation.
- Other duties by arrangement to attend groups/clubs throughout the day.
Person Specification
- Competent, reliable and must have a good work ethic
- A cheerful/positive demeanor.
- Good timekeeping.
- You must be honest and trustworthy
- You must be a good communicator.
- You must be patient and sensitive to my specific needs.
- Non-Smokers preferable
Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of moving and handling would be desirable but not essentialas full training can be provided
- The client always uses an assistant propelled wheelchair, and all applicants must have this training to ensure they are safe when supporting him.
- Other job specific training can be provided if necessary
Experience is not essential for a candidate with the right personal attributes, but they should be able to show some suitability for the role.
