Salary: £32,000 – £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

SRG are working with a global and innovative producer of coatings and polymer-based products that have been established for over 75 years. They are seeking to hire a Coatings Specialist at their site in Newcastle-upon-Tyne to focus on the development of new products, as well as support in the improvement of existing formulations. This role will suit candidates that have recent, proven industrial experience in the coatings industry, with desirable experience being in UV coatings and lacquers, particularly relating to products that are plastic, or material based. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and growing industry.
Benefits and working hours: 35.5 hours per week, 9am – 5pm Monday – Thursday and 9am – 3pm on Fridays. 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays. Company pension scheme and discretionary bonus.
Role/Description
- Develop and optimise coating formulations and techniques
- Design and implement novel water-based inks and primers, enhancing performance and sustainability across products.
- Introduce new features to surfaces, improving functionality and aligning with market trends.
- Develop and evaluate new products for new and existing applications, bringing them to market speedily and effectively.
- Conduct laboratory experiments and testing to evaluate the properties and characteristics of films and surface coatings.
- Work with production personnel and provide technical support and assistance as required to resolve production and quality issues in support of new and existing products.
- Provide technical support to customers regarding product specifications, application techniques, and troubleshooting assistance.
- Assist in the evaluation of raw materials, suppliers, and vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability requirements.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel as required for customer visits, training sessions, and industry events and work after hours as needed to support trials and customer requirements.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or similar
- Recent, proven industrial experience of developing coatings (related to plastics or materials is desirable), including UV coatings and 2K lacquers
- Knowledge and/or experience of new product development (NPD), process safety, optimisation and improvements
- Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams
