CAD Teacher, Construction
Department: Construction
Salary: £ 32,532 to £36,614 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week

The Opportunity
As a CAD Teacher in the Construction Department, you will play a key role in helping learners build strong digital design skills that are essential in the modern construction industry. Your focus will be on teaching Computer-Aided Design (CAD) across a range of construction-related courses, including Level 2 and Level 3 Construction and the Built Environment, T Levels, and HNC or HND programmes.
You will deliver lessons that introduce and develop learners\’ understanding of CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. These tools are central to current industry practice, and you will show students how they are used for creating technical drawings, planning layouts, producing 2D and 3D models, and supporting digital construction workflows. You will guide learners through the design process from concept to output, helping them understand how CAD links to real-world construction tasks and industry standards such as BIM (Building Information Modelling).
You will also help students build skills in interpreting technical drawings, producing accurate plans and elevations, and applying CAD techniques to practical construction scenarios. Your teaching will include both classroom-based sessions and opportunities for independent or project-based learning, giving students the chance to apply their knowledge in context.
As part of your role, you will keep up to date with developments in CAD technology and digital construction, ensuring that your teaching reflects the latest trends and software updates. You will also support the development of teaching materials and digital resources, helping to create a curriculum that is current, practical, and engaging.
Whether you have taught CAD before or are bringing industry experience into education for the first time, you will have the support and resources you need to help learners succeed and gain the skills that employers are looking for in the construction sector.
About You
For this role, we are looking for someone with a strong background in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), ideally within the construction or built environment sector. You may already have teaching experience, or you might be coming directly from industry and looking to take your first step into education. Either way, you will bring up-to-date knowledge, practical skills, and a genuine interest in supporting others to learn and develop.
You will need to be confident using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp, and able to apply these tools in a construction context. A good understanding of digital construction methods, technical drawing, and current industry standards—such as Building Information Modelling (BIM)—is also important.
As a teacher, you will be approachable, well-organised, and able to plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of different learners. You will enjoy working with young people and adult learners, helping them to build confidence and achieve their goals. A commitment to high-quality teaching, continuous improvement, and keeping your subject knowledge current is essential.
You will also be a strong team player, ready to collaborate with colleagues, contribute to curriculum development, and support the wider aims of the department. A teaching qualification is desirable, but if you do not yet have one, we will support you in obtaining this.
Above all, you will be someone who values education, enjoys sharing knowledge, and is ready to make a positive difference in learners’ lives through high-quality teaching in CAD and digital construction.
