About the Role

We are a small and successful team recruiting an enthusiastic individual to teach on Catering courses at our Buxton campus. This full-time position will deliver culinary skills to study programme and adult learners across Levels 1, 2 and 3. You will design and deliver engaging teaching sessions, assess learner progress, and support students to achieve high-quality learning outcomes. You will contribute to curriculum development, participate in extra-curricular and promotional events, maintain industry links, and help safeguard a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all learners. This role aims to make a real impact by helping students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence for successful careers in hospitality and catering.

You are an enthusiastic educator with experience delivering teaching or training to post-16 learners, bringing strong industry knowledge, excellent communication, and the ability to engage learners in achieving their goals. You should be organised, adaptable, able to work independently and in a small team, with strong administrative skills, time management, and a commitment to continuing professional development. A recognised teaching qualification (or working towards one) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate a specific programme or development within a programme area or across the University.
  • Act as a personal tutor, course leader, and Lead IV as required.
  • Participate in course team meetings and activities; lead a team if required.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality standards in line with the Common Inspection Framework.
  • Participate in monitoring visits for students on work placement.
  • Engage in the University’s Staff Development Programme to ensure flexible and responsive curriculum delivery.
  • Engage in all extra-curricular activities, including open days, recruitment events and external moderation processes.

General Duties

  • Undertake class contact duties as laid down in the FE Academic Contract.
  • Teach effectively using a variety of methods on appropriate programmes as directed by the Curriculum Leader.
  • Maintain currency with the Common Inspection Framework and assess and record student progress regularly.
  • Prepare programmes of work, lesson plans, and assessments; maintain administrative records in line with University procedures.
  • Ensure student safety, liaise with outside agencies as appropriate, and comply with Health & Safety and safeguarding policies.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and marketing activities; participate in safeguarding, equality and diversity, and other University policies.
  • Undertake relevant CPD and work with support staff and course teams as appropriate.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications: Hold or be working towards a teaching qualification (e.g. BEd, Cert. Ed., DTLLs or equivalent); relevant degree or professional qualification; Level 2 English and maths (Functional Skills or GCSE) or willingness to achieve within an agreed timescale.
  • Experience: Experience of delivering teaching or training to post-16 learners; experience delivering high-quality provision aligned to national benchmarks.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Ability to engage learners to achieve high-quality outcomes; knowledge of subject qualifications; awareness of current developments in Education and Training; commitment to equality and diversity; knowledge of progression routes; strong communication; ability to work independently and in a team; good administrative and organizational skills; ability to lead a team; good time management.

Business Requirements

  • DBS check with child barred list completed; Prohibited from Teaching check; commitment to widening participation; commitment to professional development; willingness to travel between College and external sites.

Desirable Criteria

  • Assessor/Verifier Awards; experience of programme leadership and management; relevant industrial experience; experience of internal and external verification processes; ongoing knowledge of Education and Training developments and progression routes for students.
