Churchill Retirement are the fastest growing company in the UK retirement house building sector and we’re looking for people like you.

About the role

Churchill are keen to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to become part of the Eastern commercial team, overseeing new retirement developments in the region.

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the entire financial cycle for up to three contracts at any one time: from the preparation of anticipated build costs, through to the procurement, payment and final evaluation of subcontractors.

Reporting to the Commercial & Construction Director, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will enjoy a high degree of autonomy and exposure, as you’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of key internal stakeholders including Land, Design and Technical teams, through to the Managing Director. You’ll also be collaborating with our external contractors, suppliers and consultants; agreeing trading terms and contract negotiations.

In the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for preparing construction budgets, monitoring costs, preparing schedules, estimates, making payments and monitoring procurement of subcontractors and materials.

In addition, your duties will include:

  • Measuring drawings, taking off quantities, preparing schedules, estimates and other working documents.
  • Provide the material costs for the preparation of construction budgets.
  • Source suitable suppliers and issue tender enquiry documents.
  • Negotiating proposed order values and regional supply agreements, together with purchasing of materials.
  • Appointing and managing sub-contractors.

The role will be mainly office based in St Albans with travel required to sites as required.

Office hours are full-time, Monday to Thursday 09:00 to 17:30 and Friday 09:00 to 17:00.

About you

Our new Senior Quantity Surveyor will demonstrate excellent commercial acumen in the housebuilding sector, ideally gained on multi-million Residential Apartments, Retirement Living, Extra-Care Homes or student accommodation. You will have experience in taking projects through their full lifecycle, from tender to final account. As a minimum you will be able to demonstrate at least 5 years relevant commercial experience within the housebuilding sector.

You will hold a relevant HNC or HND qualification together with professional body membership (RICS or MOICB) and you will be able to understand architect drawings, specification documents, as well as the relevant terminology.

It’s important that you are a commercially astute negotiator who is used to exceeding time and financial targets. Your self-motivation and ability to prioritise your workload will ensure you are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively to take on a wide range of responsibilities.

In addition, our new Senior Quantity Surveyor will be highly numerate in order to fulfil expectations regarding budgets, forecasting, reporting and preparation of accounts. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, coupled with a high standard of IT skill, MS Office and construction-related accounting software.

You will hold a clean, valid UK driving licence.
