The Governing Board at Wharton is seeking to appoint an Attendance Officer (20 hours per week) to cover a maternity leave starting September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Wharton Primary School is part of The Link Education Trust and is an inclusive, welcoming primary school with high expectations for behaviour and learning.
Reporting to: Headteacher
The Attendance Officer will monitor and enforce school attendance policies, maintain accurate attendance records, and support students and families with attendance issues. They will work closely with school staff to ensure students attend regularly and punctually.
Role Purpose
The role involves overseeing attendance records, tracking absences, following up on tardiness, and ensuring adherence to attendance policies by staff and students. The Attendance Officer will also liaise with parents, prepare attendance reports, and collaborate with local authorities and safeguarding teams to improve attendance and address safeguarding concerns.
- Monitor student attendance
- Assist students with attendance issues

- Collaborate with Local Authority Attendance Leads
- Liaise with Safeguarding team and DSL regarding safeguarding concerns related to attendance
- Analyze attendance data, especially for Pupil Premium children, and work with families to address barriers
- Identify reasons for non-attendance and work with families to resolve issues
- Conduct home visits when appropriate
- Refer cases for enforcement actions, including prosecution if necessary
- Locate Children Missing Education (CME) and support families choosing alternative education
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate records
