About the Role

The Open University is recruiting a lecturer in nursing (mental health) to join the School of Health Wellbeing and Social Care.

Key Responsibilities

You will work individually and collaboratively with the Nursing team and other colleagues across the school to:

• contribute to curriculum development and quality monitoring for nursing
• participate in the delivery and maintenance of existing modules and programmes, including writing assignments, monitoring tutors, and assessment, and attending assessment boards
• develop synergies between teaching and research by developing/enhancing a personal research plan that aligns with one or more of the school’s research themes
• work with key stakeholders to ensure the curriculum in nursing is future focused, innovative, and creative in approach and design
• ensure internal and external compliance with regulatory body requirements
• contribute more broadly to the activities of the curriculum area of the school as required;
• undertake any other duties as required by the Head of School or the Associate Head of School Nursing and Health Professions.
• Be active or show the potential to participate and be successful in bringing research income into the school

Skills and Experience

• Master’s degree or equivalent in a field related to your teaching
• Evidence of current registration with NMC (mental health field)
• A postgraduate teaching qualification and/or membership of the Higher Education Academy;
• Evidence of relevant continuing professional development;
• Experience of working within Higher Education or in an education role;
• An understanding of policy and practice issues facing nursing from a UK-wide perspective;
• The ability to work effectively, flexibly, and collaboratively with others; being reflective and self-critical of personal contributions.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English, with the capacity to communicate clearly and influentially with a range of stakeholders;
• Proven ability to plan and organise work to agreed deadlines, within resource constraints, and sometimes under pressure;
• A commitment to the OU mission;

It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required on a regular basis and in response to business needs. There will also be a requirement to attend meetings in Milton Keynes for academic community and module team meetings.

Starting salary £46,735 with opportunity for progression in post up to £55,755
