The Sedation Nurse provides advance nursing assessment, care and documentation of patient status during their procedure, inclusive of but not limited to the administration of medications, providing patient comfort, support, awareness and education. The Nurse performs these responsibilities pre-procedurally, while procedure is in progress, and post-procedurally. As a Sedation Nurse, the Nurse provides conscious or moderate sedation during invasive procedures. Position will be for 2 days per week, Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides advance nursing assessment pre-procedurally, while procedure is in progress and post-procedurally. Identifies and interprets subtle and early indicators of crisis situations and intervenes.
- Provides conscious or moderate sedation under physician supervision for the performance of procedures in the procedure room.
- Provides monitoring pre-procedurally, intra-procedurally and post-procedurally of blood pressure, ECG, oxygen saturation, capnography, IV solutions and contrast materials.
- Primarily responsible for keeping a personal watch on the patient\’s condition. Seeing to it that the room and the patient is prepared for the procedure. Provides the physician and scrub person with supplies and equipment as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining inventory and stock necessary supplies in assigned area.
- Screens patient’s medical history and identifies information that may impact care and communicates any concerns to the provider.
- Provides proper informed consent sessions prior to procedure.
- Performs laboratory testing.
- Performs IV’s when needed.
- Accurately administers, documents, and accounts for all ordered and indicated medications.
- Monitors and assesses patients during conscious or moderate sedation.
- Documents all patient encounters clearly, accurately, completely, and efficiently.
- Provides case management and follow-up for patients.
- Identifies events that qualify for an incident reporting and notify management when encountered while completing/submitting required documentation.
- Adheres to and ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, Joint Commission/AAAHC, CDC, State, Board of Pharmacy regulations, and Company sedation policies/procedures.
- Assists with emergency care.
- Maintains the integrity of emergency equipment.
- Assists with administrative duties as needed.
- Demonstrates exemplary customer service that respects and honors all people.
- May be required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of a staff RN, as needed.
- Checks work e-mail on a regular basis throughout the workday.
- Participate in and complete all required trainings and in-services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in nursing WITH at least one (1) year of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Must have knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook).
- One (1) year of prior experience working with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Must possess and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state in which the employee practices, or must hold a nursing license within a compact eligible state.Proof of licensure and/or compact eligibility must be submitted.
- Must possess a current ACLS and BLS certification.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including exceptional customer service.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, clinical staff, other co-workers and the public.
- Must be able to work individually as well as within a team.
- Must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Must be able to respond with patience and understanding during stressful conditions related to patient health and emergent situations.
- Must be able to multi-task and prioritize.
- Must have working knowledge of all equipment and procedures.

- Must have a working knowledge of the healthcare field and medical specialty, as well as medical terminology.
- Must provide proof of influenza vaccination annually.
- Must complete two (2)-step PPD (NE staff) OR must complete an annual PPD (SE staff).
- Must complete all regulatory competencies prior to beginning work in the ASC.

Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse.
- One (1) year of prior experience working in a Pain Management practice.
Driving/Travel:
The employee must have reliable transportation. Travel for this position will be required up to 100%. While the primary workplace may be closest to the employee’s home, work assignments could be in any of the Company’s locations.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Pay Range: $42.00/Hour- $47.00/Hour
- PTO: Up to 44 hours in first year (pro-rated based on start date)
