Job Title: Health & Safety Manager Location: Pontefract / Castleford Reporting to: Operations Director Recruiter: Thrive Personnel Thrive Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing business based in Pontefract, which operates across three local sites. The company specialises in creating high-quality furniture and is known for its innovative approach and strong UK-based production. We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager with a background in manufacturing to lead and manage the company’s health and safety systems, policies, and compliance. You will be pivotal in creating a safe working environment across production and warehouse operations. Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm Key Responsibilities: * Manage and continuously improve the health and safety management system, ensuring compliance with current legislation. * Develop, review, and communicate risk assessments and safe systems of work across departments. * Deliver in-house training and toolbox talks; coordinate external training where necessary. * Advise senior management on safety issues, including business cases for investment in improvements. * Support department leads with practical advice across all H&S matters. * Lead quarterly health and safety committee meetings and drive safety initiatives. * Conduct regular inspections and audits against legal and internal standards. * Oversee inspection, testing, and maintenance of plant and equipment, ensuring full compliance. * Monitor noise and dust levels; interpret data and take appropriate follow-up actions. * Implement emergency procedures, including fire drills and first aid training. * Investigate accidents and near misses, using root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence. * Report notifiable incidents as required under RIDDOR. * Promote a proactive safety culture based on transparency and continuous improvement. * Implement and oversee control measures for handling materials, PUWER, and COSHH compliance. Candidate Requirements: * NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum Level 3 in Occupational Health & Safety). * Proven experience in a similar H&S role within manufacturing or a related environment. * Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels of the business. * Experience in risk assessments, SSOW, fire safety planning, and contractor management. * IT literate with good knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Strong report-writing and analytical skills. * Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (multi-site responsibilities). * First Aid at Work Level 3 qualification. * Solid understanding of warehousing and transport safety.
