The Timber Machinist plays a key role in the manufacturing process of high-quality timber doors. This position involves operating and maintaining woodworking machinery to cut, shape, and prepare timber components to precise specifications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with timber doors, ensuring adherence to quality standards, production timelines, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain a variety of woodworking machinery, including saws, moulders, and planers, to produce components for timber doors.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications to machine timber accurately to required dimensions.
- Shape, cut, and profile timber to meet project requirements, ensuring precision and consistency.
- Inspect machined components to ensure they meet quality and dimensional standards.
- Identify and rectify defects in timber or machining processes to prevent wastage and maintain product integrity.
- Record quality checks and maintain documentation to support compliance and certification requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance on woodworking machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Sharpen and replace blades or tools as required, ensuring machinery is always ready for production.
- Report equipment issues or malfunctions to the Production Manager for timely resolution.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring the safe operation of machinery and tools.
- Wear and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in line with company standards.
- Ensure compliance with fire door manufacturing regulations and contribute to maintaining third-party certifications.
- Work closely with the Production Manager and other team members to meet production schedules and address challenges.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as CAD and CNC operators, to ensure seamless workflow and accurate production.
- Provide feedback to improve machining processes and production efficiency.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry, Joinery, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Certification or training in woodworking machinery operation is advantageous.
- Proven experience as a machinist in a timber manufacturing environment, with a focus on timber doors.
- Strong knowledge of timber properties and best practices for machining and shaping.
- Proficiency in operating woodworking machinery and hand tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot production issues.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to withstand repetitive tasks and lifting heavy materials.
- Knowledge of fire safety and timber door manufacturing standards.
