Leicester Wheelchair Service, run by Opcare on behalf of the Integrated Commissioning Board (ICB), is the leading Wheelchair service in the country based on its Key Performance Indicator data. This means that the Wheelchair Service is an efficient, equitable service to those requiring mobility devices from childhood through to adulthood. Working in a small team of Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Engineers the Service assesses and provides a range of equipment to eligible patients with a variety of conditions and disabilities to aid their quality of life and functional independence.
Job Summary:
We are currently seeking an experienced Clinical Assistant who is looking for an opportunity to be develop their career and be a part of our dynamic team in Leicester.
The Clinical Assistant will work alongside the qualified clinical team in assessing and handing over manual, self-propelling and powered wheelchairs to patients to meet their clinical need, within the clinical setting. The role will involve actively engaging with the patients, families and carers during the assessment of physical and postural needs, manual handling into and out of equipment and prescription of equipment. The role will also work with our wider administrative teams and warehouse and workshop colleagues as part of a wider multi-disciplinary approach.
Key Responsibilities:
Some of the key responsibilities the role holder will have responsibility for:
- Documentation in patients notes
- Manual handling as part of physical assessment
- Measuring patients for wheelchair provision
- Liaising with patients, carers and family members throughout their journey
- Utilisation of resources when providing equipment for patients
The role will be instrumental in helping to develop and implement service improvements for the betterment of patients in the Leicester Wheelchair Service.
The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and busy team, and be supported with local, training to develop their clinical skills to support the service. We aim to deliver a first-class service for users whilst applying the most advanced and exciting clinical and technical solutions available to patients.
