Freight Forwarder

DSV are recruiting for a Freight Forwarder to join the DSV UKFLD team based at Mercia Park
- Reporting to the operations manager, this role involves sourcing and planning 3PL supplier for all DSV FTL & LTL volumes.
- This role is a hands-on operational role working in a multi modal environment.
- The role involves planning a core fleet of vehicles based around the UK, plus freight forwarding extra volumes
- The role will require good negotiating skills, as the successful candidate will be required to issue rates to customers on an ad hoc basis, plus they will need to secure good rates from suppliers in line with departments budget requirement.
- The successful candidate will have a strong geographical knowledge of the UK and have a background in a transport planning environment.
- The roll is based on a shift pattern, with start times being between 07:00 and 11:00
Key Tasks
- Receive bookings from customers
- Review booking for data accuracy and correct documentation
- Validate shipment routing against SOP and GDP guidelines
- Job allocation to appropriate logistics service provider
- Document production and reconciliation
- Arrange collection from suppliers and deliveries to customers
- Liaise with external suppliers to monitor shipment progress

- Monitor and ensure timely and accurate updates of shipment milestones
- Handle irregularities with escalation as appropriate
- Proactive Customer Service
- Comply with Company policies and procedures
Skills and Competencies
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Cargo Link experience would be advantageous, but not essential, as training will be given.
- Good attention to detail
- Effective communicator
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Able to work in a team and individually
- Freight Forwarding and vehicle planning experience.
