Location: The SARC, Isle of Man (with some off-site duties as required)
Division: Manx Care – Integrated Women\’s, Children\’s & Families
Reporting to: SARC Manager / SARC Project Lead Doctor
Contract: Permanent / Full-time (subject to rota including out-of-hours)
Job Summary:
Manx Care and the Isle of Man Constabulary have partnered to deliver a high-quality, confidential Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for victims of rape and sexual assault. The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) will provide holistic, trauma-informed clinical care and forensic medical examinations to individuals of all genders and ages who report sexual violence-whether recent or historic.
The successful candidate will either already be trained as a SANE or be willing to complete relevant accredited training within 6-12 months of starting.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver forensic medical examinations including the collection and documentation of evidence in accordance with FFLM standards
Provide sensitive, non-judgemental support and advocacy to complainants
Undertake risk assessments including safeguarding, mental health, and physical wellbeing
Liaise with partner agencies (police, social care, sexual health, mental health) to ensure coordinated and appropriate care
Ensure forensic integrity, including chain of custody, sample handling, and evidence documentation
Support complainants through onward referrals and follow-up care
Participate in audits, clinical governance, service development, and peer review
Contribute to rotas including out-of-hours provision as required
Essential Criteria:
NMC Registered Nurse or Midwife with at least 4 years post-registration experience
Minimum of 3 years in a relevant clinical area (e.g. Gynaecology, GUM, Sexual Health, Emergency Dept, or Midwifery)
Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and clinical governance
Experience of forensic documentation or willingness to train
Willingness to complete accredited \”Introduction to SARC\” training within 6 months
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work autonomously and within a multi-agency team
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable Criteria:
Higher qualification (e.g. Diploma/Degree in relevant field)
Experience in gynaecological or proctoscopic examination
V300 Independent Prescriber or PGD experience
Prior SANE experience with portfolio of competence
Familiarity with SARC services, forensic pathways, and safeguarding frameworks
Understanding of STIs, contraception, and PEP provision
Knowledge of IOM\’s healthcare and strategic priorities
Additional Information:
Role includes physical, mental, and emotional demands including exposure to distressing content
Out-of-hours and on-call duties expected
Enhanced Police Check and DBS clearance required
