Insight Investment is looking for a Desktop Platform Engineer to join the Desktop Engineering team in London. This is a highly technical, multi-disciplined, systems engineering focused role. The team has responsibility for maintaining and improving the existing EUC platform technology stack. This includes working closely with the IT Security Team to ensure that the VDI environment is secure and that vulnerabilities are patched in a timely manner.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the existing EUC platform technology stack, ensuring security through timely patching of vulnerabilities
- Contribute to technical designs, specifications and approaches for new projects and initiatives
- Integrate new technologies into the platform, collaborating with third-party vendors and project teams to achieve successful outcomes
- Assess the technical impact of integrating new technology into the existing environment
- Manage the configuration of the VDI environment using PowerShell, Ivanti Environment Manager and Symantec Ghost Solution Suite
- Ensure the security of the VDI environment with tools like Microsoft Defender, WSUS, Ivanti Application Control, and Qualys
- Analyse and resolve complex hardware and software issues associated with EUC platform technologies
- Optimise solutions to meet business needs by working closely with colleagues and external vendors
- Create high-quality documentation for solutions and processes
- Provide technical support escalation to customer-focused support teams
- Provide technical input for specific EUC-related needs or objectives
- Be available for occasional paid overtime during weekends and evenings for maintenance and project work
Experience Required
- Must be able to demonstrate in-depth experience of engineering capability in the end-user compute space
- Working knowledge of Omnissa Horizon, vSphere, Ivanti Application & Environment Manager, PowerShell and Ghost Solution Suite
- In-depth analysis using tools such as SysTrack, ProcMon, Wireshark and Windows Performance Analyser
- Windows 11 Design and rollout experience
- Strong experience of IT Security patching; Windows, O365 and other applications
- Understanding of IT Security Vulnerability Management. Analysis of CVEs and preparing / deploying patches and fixes
- Able to understand and meet IT Security and regulatory compliance requirements
- Ability to determine a problem’s root cause through analysis of data, events, logs, system behaviour and user experiences, and the correlation between these things
- Ability to analyse and resolve complex hardware and software issues associated with the EUC platform. Identify related problems that may indicate systemic problems
- Ability to hold a bigger picture view of the platform and processes; to not only view individual solutions in isolation
- Able to understand technical documentation and work with 3rd party vendors and in-house stakeholders to implement and integrate new solutions and technologies into the platform
- Work closely with colleagues and external vendors with the goal of optimising solutions to meet the needs of the business
