We are looking for a, driven individual to undertake the position of Technician 1 (across nights, days and wheel lathe) at Reading Train Care Depot. The successful candidate will be joining a team responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance of Class 387 & 16X rolling stock. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated with a desire to succeed.

What you\’ll be doing?

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Carrying out safety critical and non-safety critical tasks in accordance with controlled technical instructions on Diesel and Electric rolling stock.
  • Plan/Co-ordinate tasks with others working on the same unit / vehicle(s) or location.
  • To carry out maintenance activities, fault finding & rectification and defect reporting.
  • Provide technical support at mainline stations as required
  • Create and maintain the necessary safe conditions for work activity.
  • Work away from home location, dependent upon personal contract and/or roster requirement

Who we\’re looking for?

You\’ll need to be:

  • Pro-active and able to work as part of a team, or alone as required.
  • Able to plan your workload to meet tight constraints.
  • Able to work weekends, bank holidays and live within a reasonable distance of Reading Train Care Depot.
  • Be from a recognised engineering background.

As a minimum you\’ll need to have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering subject.
  • Engineering experience (Railway knowledge of Diesel and Electric rolling stock will be advantageous to the role, but local training will be provided).

Reading Train Care Depot is a large varied site with good transport links. The outstations are accessible by rail and road.
