Job overview

A new, exciting opportunity has arisen for in Children and Young Peoples Services. We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join the team as Service Manager in the Community & Rehabilitation Care Group.

This is a key role in delivering an effective service through driving development and capturing impact. The role presents a good opportunity for someone who seeks to make a positive difference to patient care. The role will actively support pathway development, patient outcomes, people (staff) and operational performance.

The post holder will support the delivery of daily operational delivery, cost improvement plans and activity review within the Care Group and line manage the deputy and assistant service managers.

The service manager reports directly into the General Manager and will be supported in development and delivery by the wider Care Group including Director of Operations and Care Group Triumvirate.

Main duties of the job

The role supports the day-to-day efficient and effective production and management of the defined performance areas, reporting to a General Manager and is accountable to the Director(s) of Operations.

Works closely with clinical and operational teams within the defined service areas to respond to performance issues on a day-to-day basis, and ensure issues are swiftly resolved. Facilitate effective communication between and across services areas. Facilitate or lead new initiatives and transformational programmes. Support performance improvement alongside safe and effective care to patients. Building and presenting activity data to commissioners for contract monitoring. The Service Manager will have line manager responsibilities for the administration teams as agreed by SDU leads.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

  • Education and training to degree level or equivalent
  • Recognised leadership and/or management qualification or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of Service Delivery and performance, including a track record of:
  • Contributing to improvements in service standards and patient experience
  • Monitoring compliance with local and national performance and quality targets
  • Experience of managing administrative and support staff
  • Suggesting innovative and lasting solutions to problems and difficulties
  • Experience of budget and resource management
  • Experience of working with patients and the public to develop and improve services

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Up-to-date knowledge of defined service areas, including current issues in service delivery, patient pathways
  • Understanding of current issues in health performance, including business planning process
  • Ability to write management reports and on key performance and service issues
  • Effective verbal and written communication to facilitate effective working with clinical staff, patients and carers, and work colleagues
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex and varied information in order to identify issues and solutions
  • Understanding of the importance of good Human Resources practice
  • Ability to demonstrate behaviours and attitudes consistent with Trust values and service standards
  • Ability to motivate staff to deliver the best for patients
