Salary: £18.87 ph

Location: Shrewsbury

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to lead the Macine Shop Department, coordinate projects and CPS initiatives, reporting directly to the Section Manager. The successful candidate must be a self-starter with a range of experiences including a broad knowledge of the Shrewsbury products and have an operational background, and ability to lead teams and coach others. The purpose of this post is to develop the team, deliver the production plan, exceed cost targets and ensure that products are defect free. In addition, it is expected that the post holder will ensure and promote a safe, clean and organized environment for all staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure safety standards and procedures are followed.

  • Responsibility for return to work interviews and discipline issue which arise.

  • Understand the technical aspects of the processes and flow for area assigned.

  • Team Leader must be both a practitioner and teacher of fundamental CPS principles and committed to their successful implementation. They are responsible for continually looking for and identifying waste.

  • 5S improvement in their areas.

  • Communicate effectively with all those in need of information, including Team Members, management, maintenance, quality groups, etc. They are required to report out on the area’s status relative to plan.

  • Owning the metrics for the given area and are accountable for each operation’s metric accuracy and timeliness of their reporting.

  • Team Leader own the area’s current state Value Stream Map. They partner with the Section Manager in implementation of changes needed to achieve the future state Value Stream Map.

  • Monitor and audit People, Quality, Velocity and Cost metrics for each operation (cell level metrics) in their area of responsibility. This is accomplished via audits of Team Member’s performance compared to: Standard Work, Significant Control Points and Area indicators.

  • Responsible for assisting in the creation, auditing, training and implementation of Standard Work processes and documentation.

  • Manage the CI process in their area of work.
