My client is seeking an experienced Planning Lawyer to provide expert legal advice and to take the lead on high-profile planning, property, highways, and regeneration matters. This is a senior role (which is open to step-up candidates) within the Legal Services team, playing a critical part in major local authority projects and strategic decision-making.

Key Planning Lawyer Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-level legal advice on planning and regeneration-related issues
  • Draft and negotiate complex planning and highway agreements
  • Represent the Council at inquiries, tribunals, and committees
  • Support and lead on strategic legal work and corporate initiatives
  • Supervise and mentor team members, deputising for the Chief Lawyer as required
  • Ensure compliance with legal frameworks and governance procedures

The ideal Planning Lawyer will be/have:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with significant post-qualification experience
  • Expertise in local government law, particularly planning and regeneration
  • Strong leadership, case management, and communication skills
  • Full understanding of risk management in the context of corporate governance
