AECOM are currently recruiting for a Building Physics Engineer to join the London office within the Building Physics Specialisms Team. Working on offices, residential, retail, healthcare, education, cultural buildings as well as international projects.
As a Building Physics Engineer will be involved all aspects of building environmental and engineering modelling, including early stage planning submissions, though to full practical completion. They will be required to prepare specifications, undertake advanced computer modelling, reporting outcomes and recommendation, assisting to develop the junior team members.
The successful candidate will be working towards chartership, and have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with a mechanical engineering / building services degree, who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career.
About the team:
The Building Physics team primarily supports the MEP engineers and the SDA group with all aspects related to thermal modelling. The core team is situated in Aldgate tower but there are a number of other supporting Building Physicists located in other offices and disciplines across the UK.
We are looking for an individual based within the UK with extensive experience, who can provide project and modelling support for our core team. The candidate would be expected to attend an in person meeting at least once a month in the Aldgate office.
Our team specialise in all manor of sectors including; Commercial, domestic, healthcare, education, defence, sports, and leisure. We are market leaders on large international projects, as well as working closely with the local community.
What you’ll do!
Job Responsibilities:
- Undertake the control of all production aspects of the projects, obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.
- Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations, make submissions to the Statutory Authorities and obtain approvals as necessary.
- Ensure the Design Team is kept fully informed of all technical and other information necessary for the duration of the project.
- Produce all related design information, ensure that all calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the IMS, relevant Standards and Codes of Practice and our conform to our internal processes and methodology’s.
- Represent AECOM at Client, Design Team and Progress meetings throughout the design and construction phases of projects.
- Undertake advanced IES modelling, including Apache HVAC, Part L and EPC analysis and Operation Energy Modelling (experience of NABERs, TM54, BREEAM & ASHRAE)
- An understanding of net zero carbon in buildings, ability to provide advice on lowering carbon and energy for both new and existing buildings.
- Ability to prepare clear concise reports and Technical notes to communicate with internal and external clients.
- Undertake quality reviews of all aspects of modelling work.

Requirements:
- Ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently, and to take ownership of projects.
- Be proactive about self-development, ideally being close to achieving Chartered Engineer status.
- Ability to assist in the management of tasks for junior and trainee engineers.
- Advance knowledge of IES, working knowledge of Revit, Window and Thermo software, Python scripting and excel.
- Ability to assist in training and supervise more junior staff in all aspects of Building Physics work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree educated in mechanical engineering, building services, or similar / related discipline.
- Ideally a CIBSE EPC (LCEA) and CIBSE low carbon energy assess qualification or advance knowledge with view of gaining accreditation.
