EAL Teaching Assistant Required in Leeds

About the role:

At Engage Education, we’ve specialised in recruiting teaching assistants for over a decade, so we know a bit about finding the ideal school for you. We’re currently looking for an enthusiastic EAL Teaching Assistant to work with primary aged pupils.

This will involve working with small groups of children or with children on a 1:1 basis who need English Language support. Some of the pupils may speak some English but it may be broken English or some of them may speak no English at all.

These students need tailored support when it comes to helping them transition to speaking English fluently. Some of these children may be new to the country or their parents may not speak English so the pupils may not be practising English Language as much as they need.

We are looking for applicants to be fluent in English but in addition to also speaking Romanian or Polish.

Our EAL Teaching Assistants’ duties can include:

  • Working with small groups of pupils
  • Working on a one-to-one basis with children who need language support
  • Helping to simplify and explain key vocabulary as well as classroom instructions
  • Provide bilingual support
  • Providing personal and emotional care for pupils when needed
  • Managing classroom behaviour
  • Providing intervention/SATS support for students
  • Tracking progress on language development and academic progress
  • Providing feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo
  • Act as a liason between school and the families
  • Preparing lesson materials
  • Support with assessments

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Some experience working with young children or in a UK school setting within the last 2 years
  • Fluent in English as well as either Romanian or Polish
  • A real passion for education and improving the attainment of pupils
  • Bags of creativity for stimulating and engaging pupils’
  • Level 3 support staff qualification is desired but is not essential providing you have professional Special Needs experience
