We have an exciting opportunity for a Sonographer /Accredited Vascular Scientist to assist with the delivery of training for the North East and North Cumbria Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but required to attend the screening sites within the catchment area.
We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and sensitive individual to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning in the community and support local training of the Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners. You will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team working closely with NAAASP approved vascular units to provide an effective patient focused service. You will also be encouraged to undertake a range of training and development activities.
You will be expected to have a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards.
The successful candidate will need to have a clean driving licence and a car available for use with insurance for business purposes
Main duties of the job
• To be responsible for the training, supervision and quality assurance of the Screening Technicians/Screening Nurse Practitioners in accordance with national and local policies.
• To undertake accurate abdominal aortic ultrasound scanning as part of the community AAA screening programme.
• To ensure all aortic ultrasound scanning is performed to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.
• To ensure that members of the public attending clinics are informed and are fully aware of the implications of AAA screening.
• To provide health promotion to men identified with an aneurysm.
• To work as a member of the multi disciplinary team providing an efficient and effective service to patients/clients within the screening centre and screening sites.
• To undertake professional and technical training requirements as required by the North East and North Cumbria AAA Screening Programme.

Qualifications
- Hold a recognised CASE accredited (or equivalent) qualification in sonography (DMU/PGDip/PGCert in Medical Ultrasound)) and/or full SVT accreditation
- Current HCPC registration
- Valid UK Driving Licence
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA).
- NAAASP CST Qualification

- Evidence of appropriate CPD
- Minimum 2 years post-qualification NHS experience
